What better way to launch into the new year than with fresh air, friendly competition, and a dash of coastal charm? Join us on New Year's Day, January

 1, 2026, for the iconic Sawtell Fun Run and Sprints, Australia's longest-running fun run, now celebrating its 106th year! Organised by your very own Coffs Coast Athletics Club, this beloved event is more than just a race; it's a vibrant community fundraiser that brings together families, fitness enthusiasts, and speed demons of all ages to support our club's programs and initiatives.

The day kicks off with the Sawtell Fun Run, a scenic 5.25km course winding through the picturesque streets of Sawtell. Starting at the Sawtell RSL on First Avenue, the women's race blasts off at 9:00 AM, followed closely by the men's race at 9:02 AM. Whether you're a seasoned runner aiming for a personal best or a casual participant soaking up the holiday vibes, this historic route offers something for everyone. Entry is just $20 if you register online by 6:00 PM on December 31, 2025, or $30 on the day (entries close at 8:15 AM). Pre-registered runners, be sure to pick up your race tags by 8:30 AM at the Sawtell RSL. With thousands of participants expected, it's the perfect blend of challenge and cheer – all while enjoying Sawtell's stunning scenery and promoting good sportsmanship.

But the fun doesn't stop there! After the main run, head over to the Sawtell Beach Holiday Park for the adrenaline pumping Sawtell Opens 100m Sprints, running from 11:00 AM to 2:30 PM, with heats starting at 12:00 PM. Open to athletes of all ages (as of New Year's Day), this inclusive event features categories like Junior Sprints (7-16 years), Open Men's and Women's Sprints, and Masters (35+ years). Entry is only $15, and you can sign up online until December 31 or on the day. Heat assignments will be posted at 11:45 AM at the marshalling tent – arrive by 11:50 AM ready to run! The Open Men's and Women's finals offer exciting prize money: $200 for 1st, $100 for 2nd, and $50 for 3rd. With a specially prepared 100m track, it's your chance to shine, whether you're chasing glory or just joining in the thrill.

This event is part of the larger Sawtell Super Fun Day festivities, complete with food stalls, live entertainment, rides, and displays from local heroes like the RFS and NSW Fire & Rescue. It's family friendly from start to finish, with junior events like the Half Mile (for ages 6 and under) and Mile (7-12 years) ensuring even the little ones can participate and win prizes. Prizes are up for grabs across all categories for participants aged 7 and up, making it a rewarding day for everyone.
